Why LingoMic uses your own Gemini key

LingoMic runs on Google’s Gemini AI to listen, translate and summarize your meetings. Instead of charging you a monthly AI fee, we let you use your own key. Google hands these out for free, with a daily usage allowance.

That means your LingoMic plan never includes an AI bill, and your meeting audio travels straight from your device to Google, with no middleman server in between.

Five steps to your key

  1. Open Google AI Studio and sign in with your Google account.
  2. Click Get API key in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Create API key and pick an existing project, or let Google create one.
  4. Copy the key that appears. It begins withAIza.
  5. Keep it somewhere safe, and never share it.

Google sets the free allowance and may change it. You can see your current limits on the Usage page in AI Studio.

Add your key to LingoMic

The LingoMic setup page asks for your key right after you sign in: paste it and LingoMic checks it at once. You can change it later in Settings, in the Gemini API key field. Once you see the green check, you’re ready for your next meeting.

Common errors

“API key not valid”: part of the key was cut off when copying. Copy the full key again.

“Quota exceeded”: you’ve used today’s allowance. LingoMic retries on its own and carries on when Google resets it (midnight Pacific time). You can check the Usage page in AI Studio.
